artist statement

Ralph Baudach studied Applied Media Science at TU Ilmenau and Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), focusing on 2D film animation and documentary film production. In his diploma thesis he dedicated himself to the visualisation of music.

His current artistic works intentionally contrast with the transience of television broadcasts and live news journalism which dominate his non-artistic activities.

By using materials such as steel, asphalt, plastic, homemade oil paint, pine resin, clay and centuries-old linen he creates works that generate a tangible vertical intermission in the horizontal progression of time.

Staying whilst passing – the desire and contradiction of human existence.

Hence Ralph Baudach's main theme: the Anthropocene in its various forms, primarily capitalism, consumerism, industrialisation, globalisation, environmental destruction, human amorality and transience.
